How to submit the perfect application form for a role in teaching

So, now you’ve read the article on how to get ‘CV ready’, it’s now time to understand the tips on submitting your application form and getting it right, every time. Most application forms are generic and you tend to end up writing the same answers over and over again but, we have highlighted a few things that you can do to make your application form stand out and reduce the amount of time it takes to complete.

1. Create a word document version

As I have just mentioned, most application forms are generic with some tailored questions added in to help narrow down their interviewees. What you don’t want to do is spend time manually writing out the same answers, job history and personal statement. Write everything down on a word document first and take what you need for each section in the application form. Bear in mind that you will need to tweak this information to be tailored to each role you apply for, especially if their application is different. Get the basics right and the rest will follow.

2. Personal Statement

Again, most application forms are generic so, to make sure you stand out, you need to have a brilliant personal statement. On your word document, write down what makes you unique and why someone should hire you. Don’t forget to read the job description thoroughly, so you can make it relevant to that specific job. Do not lie on here, either, as you may be asked questions upon interview about your personal statement.

3. Be transparent with your employment history

Never lie about your employment history. If you have gaps in your employment, highlight the positives of that gap. They will check your history and do reference checks, so make sure you keep it upbeat and positive.

4. Ensure your answers are relevant

Some application forms will ask specific questions that are relevant to the job, so it may be difficult for you to prepare for those questions, however, most application forms will be asking you about your responsibilities in your previous roles. Take your answers from your word document and tweak them to highlight your responsibilities that are relevant to the job you are applying for.
The most important thing to remember is to be clear, concise and consistent.

Always make sure you check their careers page to see if they offer any further advice on submitting an application form and always read the job description thoroughly. Taking this little bit of extra time to read through and make your application relevant will really make you stand out.
